Why it's dangerous today

One search turns your name into a home address.

People-search sites put your phone number, address, age, and relatives on one page, and anyone can see it, including people you'd never want at your door.

Harassment & stalking

A listed address can bring someone straight to your door. That matters most if you've left an abusive relationship or have someone fixated on you.

Scams & spam calls

Your phone number, age, and relatives' names are what scammers need to sound believable. It's why so many "grandparent" scam calls know who to name.

Identity theft

Birth date, past addresses, and relatives answer the security questions banks and carriers use to verify that you're you.

Doxxing

Real-estate agents, judges, public officials, healthcare workers, teachers, and creators get targeted when an online argument turns into "here's where they live."

Your family gets exposed too

These sites link relatives to each other. Removing one person while their family stays listed often leads right back to them.

Listings come back

Brokers refresh their data. A listing that's gone today can be back next month, so removal has to be monitored, not done once and forgotten.

California is paying attention

Californians had signed up for the state's free DROP deletion tool by August 2026, with 654 registered data brokers in the system.

How it works

Four steps. We handle the tedious part.

Bots handle the paperwork and follow-ups. A person checks every listing and decides when to escalate.

  1. Sign up

Pick a plan and tell us the names, phone numbers, emails, and past addresses brokers might match on. We only ask for what removal requires.

  2. Sign the authorized-agent form

A short e-signed permission form lets us act for you under California and other state privacy laws. California residents verify residency once, and we file DROP for you.

  3. We remove & verify

We submit opt-outs, confirm emails, and send statute-citing follow-ups when a site ignores us. A person checks each listing before marking it Cleared.

  4. Monthly re-scan + report

We re-scan every month (weekly on Safety Shield). Anything that reappears goes straight back in the queue, and you get a report each month.

Your dashboard

See every site, every status, every deadline.

No black box. Each listing shows where it stands, and every "Cleared" is backed by a before-and-after screenshot a person checked.

People-verified vs. bots

Why a human in the loop matters.

Many removal services are fully automated. Bots can submit a form, but big people-search sites often block them, and bots can't tell whether a listing is actually gone.

What about California's free DROP tool?

We file DROP for you, then cover what it doesn't.

DROP lets a California resident send one free deletion request to every registered data broker. It's a good start, and we use it. Brokers download the list at least every 45 days, and status updates can take up to 90 days.

  • Unregistered sites and sites that say they aren't brokers
  • Proof of removal with before/after screenshots
  • Fast re-removal when listings reappear, instead of waiting for the next 45-day cycle
  • Legal escalation for sites that don't respond
  • Clients outside California, who can't use DROP

FAQ

Honest answers.

Do you guarantee removal?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Here is exactly what we promise:

"We submit and pursue removal requests on your behalf, but we cannot guarantee that any website will remove your information, that removed information will not reappear, or that information derived from public records will be deleted. Results depend on third-party compliance with applicable law."

What we do promise is effort and transparency: a person checks every listing, and your dashboard shows the real status of each one.

Why can't you remove public records?

California's privacy law (CCPA) excludes "publicly available information," such as government records, from the personal information a business must delete. A site may keep data that comes purely from public records like property or court files. Data that has been aggregated or enriched may still have to be deleted, and we push on that. We mark true public-record items as "Exempt" so you know where they stand. For people at risk, we can point you to California's Safe at Home address-confidentiality program.

Why do some sites ask me to verify my identity myself?

California regulations (11 CCR §7063) allow a business to require proof that you authorized us, and to ask you to verify your identity or confirm the request directly with them. Some sites also block automated tools. When that happens, we send you a one-click checklist item that usually takes about two minutes on your own device, and track it in your dashboard. An optional limited power of attorney can skip some of these steps.

What is an "authorized agent," and is this legal?

California and several other states let you appoint an authorized agent to submit privacy requests, such as delete and opt-out of sale, for you. You sign a dated permission form naming us and the rights we can exercise. For California's DROP, you first verify your residency yourself, and our business is listed as your agent in your DROP account. We can't cancel your request unless you tell us to.

I live in California. Why not just use DROP myself?

You absolutely can, and it's free. We'll even file it for you on any plan. DROP only reaches registered brokers, runs on a 45-day cycle, and doesn't give you screenshots or follow up with sites that don't comply. We cover those gaps.

I don't live in California. Can you still help?

Yes. About 20 states have comprehensive privacy laws in effect, and most include deletion and opt-out rights (Concord). In states without one, we use each site's voluntary opt-out, which most large people-search sites offer. What an agent can request differs by state, and we use the right process for yours.

How long does removal take?

It varies by site. Many remove listings within days. Under California law, businesses generally have 45 days to respond to a request, and DROP requests can't be changed for 45 days once submitted, so we collect all your name variants, phones, emails, and past addresses up front. California public officials can demand removal of their home address and phone number within 48 hours under Gov. Code §7928.215, and we handle that on Safety Shield.

What if my information comes back?

It often does, because brokers refresh their data. We re-scan monthly (weekly on Safety Shield), and anything that reappears goes straight back into the removal queue.

How do you protect the information I give you?

We collect only what removal requires. We use your data only to fulfill your requests, verify identity, or prevent fraud, as California's authorized-agent rules require. ID documents are stored encrypted, shown only to sites that require them, and deleted once removal is complete. Each client gets a dedicated inbox for broker confirmations, which keeps your personal email out of broker databases.

I'm being harassed or stalked. Can you help?

Yes. Safety Shield starts within 48 hours, with weekly re-scans, a named human contact, and an incident log you can share with police or an attorney. Survivors referred by a shelter or advocate can get our advocate rate ($299/yr, sliding scale). Email safety@getwipeme.com for a confidential intake. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.

Do you hold my credit freeze PINs or passwords?

No. During the Credit Freeze Concierge screen-share, you log in to each bureau, verify your own identity, and save every PIN and password in your own password manager. We guide each step, confirm each freeze shows "frozen," and record only the dates. Freezes themselves are free by federal law, and the bureaus must place one within 1 business day of an online or phone request (FTC). You pay us for our time, not for the freeze.

Will Business/LLC Privacy erase my old filings?

No. It protects your California Statement of Information from now on by listing a commercial registered agent and business address instead of your home. Older filings stay viewable as images on the Secretary of State's site (CA SOS), so we add those old addresses to your people-search removal list.

Can I cancel?

Monthly plans can be canceled anytime (Total Privacy monthly has a 3-month minimum, which covers the up-front setup work). Annual plans show the renewal price up front, and we send a summary and reminder before renewal. See our Terms for refund details.
